The Carlo Coccia Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1994, is nowadays a well-known part of the music world. Thanks to its increasingly frequent participation at major concert seasons, it is now a point of reference for the sector and its cooperation with famous conductors and soloists confirms its artistic growth.
From its beginning, the Orchestra has gained considerable success working with conductors such as Janos Acs, Bruno Aprea, Renato Beretta, Marco Berrini, Massimiliano Caldi, Fabrizio Carminati, Fabrizio Dorsi, Giuseppe Garbarino, Paolo Gatto, Marcello Rota, Diego Fasolis, Gian Paolo Sanzogno, Alessandro Sangiorgi, Hubert Stuppner and Aldo Tarchetti and soloists such as Cecilia Gasdia, Jeffrey Swann, Simone Pedroni, Marco Rizzi and Danilo Rossi.
Since 1999, it has worked closely with the “Coro Filarmonico Teatro alla Scala” Association performing a concert tour in the main Italian cities, directed by Roberto Gabbiani. The Orchestra accompanied the Scala Ballet during the opening night of Teatro Alfieri di Asti in June 2002.
In April 2005, the Orchestra put on the “Amor da Tango-Bolero” show with music written by Ravel and Piazzola and the participation of Ruben Celiberti and the Teatro Coccia ballet company.
The Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from Mozart’s classicism to the great romantic symphonic music and also includes the twentieth century music. It performed a tour with a programme dedicated to G. Gershwin with the participation of the pianist Jeffrey Swann, the first Italian performance of Renato Grisoni’s Orchestra Ballad and the first public performance of Guido Cantelli’s “Tema con Variazioni”.
Since 1998, the “Adiemus” cantata by Karl Jenkins has been performed several times in the version for children chorus and orchestra.
As well as its symphonic activities, the Orchestra is also heavily involved in opera and has taken part in the Lyric Season of Teatro Coccia in Novara since 1994. Its productions include the following operas: La Traviata, Rigoletto, L’Italiana in Algeri, Il Trovatore, Madame Butterfly, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Nabucco, Lucia di Lammermoor, Macbeth, Manon Lescaut, La Figlia del Reggimento, Carmen, Don Pasquale, Bohème and Norma performed in Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza during the summer of 2001 and during the most recent season of Teatro Coccia, Turandot, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci.
The Orchestra recently brought Carlo Coccia’s “Clotilde” and “Arrighetto” back to the stage in their first modern performance to great acclaim.
