PIANO COMPETITION
(October 14 - 24, 2009)


RULES

1) The 60th Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition 2009 is open to Pianists of all nationality born after 24 October 1976.
2) All music must be performed from memory. All the music performed must be published.
3) First prize winners in former Vercelli International Competitions are not allowed to compete in the section for which they were awarded for the prize.
4) All competitors must arrive at the Secretary of the Competition in Vercelli by 4.00pm on the day of convocation to attend an information meeting and the drawing ceremony.
5) The performing order of contestants determined by drawing before the first round will be maintained throughout the Competition except for the final round in which the order will be established by the members of the Jury.
6) Candidates are advised to remain in Vercelli, and must be available at all times during the whole period when they are competing.
7) The decisions of the Jury are final; in case of differences of interpretation of the Competition Regulations, the Italian text will be held as definitive.
8) In case of radio or television broadcast of the Competition, contestants have no financial or other rights, as regards the broadcasting and telecasting of the same. Participation in the Competition implies a tacit agreement of this above-mentioned rule.
9) The first prize is indivisible. The Jury can decide not to award any prize.
10) Prize-winners of the International Music Competition G.B. Viotti of Vercelli agree to make use in future of the exact title conferred by the Jury. Any misuse will be prosecuted.
11) The winners are committed to perform at the Prizewinners’Concert of the Competition without fee.

APPLICATION FORM
The application form completed in all its parts must be sent to:

no later than 30 June 2009. The postmark will be proof of posting.

The application form must be sent together with:
1) Copy of the applicant’s passport or equivalent document that contains their name, nationality and birthday;
2) Curriculum vitae and typewritten details of musical and artistic education and of prizes won at other Competitions. A copy of a certificate testifying his/her musical studies. A candidate who studied privately must enclose a statement from his/her teacher.
Documents that are not written in Italian, English, German or French must be accompanied by a translation into one of the above four languages;
3) Three recent photographs carrying the applicant’s name on the back: two passport-size photograph and an artistic photograph (9x12 cm);

4) Recording: an unedited, authenticated and referenced, digital recording on CD or DVD must be submitted by all applicants as follow:
a) The recording must be of excellent technical quality and preferably recorded professionally.
c) Duration: minimum 15 minutes, maximun 30 minutes.
d) Recording must contain:
1) The first movement or several movements including the first movement from one of the sonatas by Beethoven, J. Haydn or Mozart.
2) An Etude by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Skriabin, Rachmaninov or Bartok.

5) The musical program for the competition including the full title of the piece, Opus numbers, movements, approximate timings for each work.
6) A receipt showing that the entrance fee has been paid.

Those candidates whose application form is incomplete and whose entrance fee is unpaid within the set time limit should not be allowed to compete.

SELECTION OF THE CANDIDATES
All applicants will be informed of their acceptance or rejection not later than July 2009.
The first, second and third prize winners of the last two editions of the piano competitions registered in the World Federation of International Music Competition of Geneva will be admitted to the Competition. In this case, the Candidate should attach documentation.
