ANIKA VAVIC

Belgrade-born Viennese pianist Anika Vavic moved to Vienna at the age of sixteen, studying under Noel Flores at the University of Music and Performing Arts and receiving guidance from Elisabeth Leonskaja, Lazar Berman, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Winner of the Second Steinway Competition in Vienna and its Special Prize for best Haydn interpretation, she received scholarships from the Herbert von Karajan Center and the Gottfried von Einem Foundation, as well as the Austrian State Women’s Art Prize. She is an official Steinway Artist.

She works regularly with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, Kirill Karabits, Valery Gergiev, and Jakub Hrusa. Highlight performances include appearances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the BBC Proms, the Enescu Festival in Bucharest, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, and the Helsinki Philharmonic.

Her repertoire extends to contemporary music; she has performed world premieres and dedicated works by composers including Rodion Shchedrin, Johannes Maria Staud, Shih, and Kalevi Aho. A guest at international festivals such as the Ruhr Piano Festival, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Grafenegg, White Nights in St. Petersburg, and Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, she appears frequently at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus. Recital tours have taken her to New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Cologne Philharmonie. Her chamber music partners include Gautier Capuçon, Rainer Honeck, and Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
