ANNA KELLY

Mezzo-soprano Anna Kelly holds a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music and an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School. She has been a member of young artist programs with The Santa Fe Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, and Sarasota Opera. Her operatic repertoire includes roles such as Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Mère Marie in Dialogues des Carmélites, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, and Ruggiero in Alcina. In concert and oratorio, she has appeared as a soloist in works like Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Handel’s Messiah. Her accolades include Second Place and the Audience Favorite Award at the Veronica Dunne International Competition, first place at the Carolyn Bailey Argento Competition, and a grant from The Loren L. Zachary Competition.

This is a repertoire that highlights versatility and dramatic depth. The first round pairs the passion of Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther with the torment of Dorabella in Mozart’s “Smanie implacabili,” an aria that requires both agility and expressive control.

The semifinal continues this exploration of the great romantic and classical repertoire. The Komponist’s aria “Wie du warst” from Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos requires lyricism and ardor, while “Deh, per questo istante solo” from Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, a famous aria for Sesto, is a test of vocal control and dramatic intensity.
