CHANGDAI PARK

Chang dai Park, originally from Busan, South Korea, graduated from Busan Arts High School and Seoul National University. He studied with masters like Kammersänger Attila Jun and Caren Van Oijen, and participated in masterclasses with artists such as Kwangchul Youn and Anne Sofie von Otter. He completed his Master of Music with a full scholarship at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, graduating a year early.

He is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the Belvedere International Competition (2021), the Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg competition (2022), and the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition (2022). A member of the Komische Oper Berlin, he debuted as Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro (2022). His roles include Brander in La damnation de Faust, Abimelech in Samson et Dalila, Panas in Christmas Eve, and Monterone in Rigoletto. He also debuted as Banco in Macbeth in Switzerland.

The first round opens with the famous “Ves’ tabor spit” (Aleko’s Cavatina) from Rachmaninoff’s Aleko, where the protagonist expresses his loneliness and the jealousy that torments him. This is followed by Escamillo’s famous “Toreador Song” from Bizet’s Carmen, a hymn to passion and courage. The semifinal continues with two arias of great psychological depth: the first is Boris Godunov’s monologue from Mussorgsky’s opera of the same name, in which the powerful tsar expresses his inner torment for power. The program concludes with Don Carlo’s aria from Verdi’s Ernani, a moment of introspection in which the king reflects on his destiny.
