XU CHEN

The Chinese tenor Xu Chen graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. He made his debut as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte in Berlin and as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto in Bolzano. He has won numerous awards, including the Gold Award of the 10th China Golden Bell Award, First Prize at the 2017 Vienna International Music Competition, and First Prize at the 2021 International Music Competition Rome Grand Prize Virtuoso. He has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at venues such as the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Tivoli Concert Hall.

The first round combines the Duke’s song from Rigoletto, a piece of great lightheartedness and cynicism, with Roméo’s serenade from Roméo et Juliette, an expression of youthful love and lyricism. The semi-final features Rodolfo’s aria from La bohème, a cornerstone of the tenor repertoire, and the Duke’s aria from Rigoletto, “Ella mi fu rapita”.
