The program unites Russian and Italian repertoire, highlighting a versatile baritone capable of tackling different styles. The first round features two arias of different character: Aleko’s cavatina from Rachmaninoff’s opera of the same name, a passionate lament of a character confronting his destiny, and the famous aria of Leporello from Don Giovanni, a comic and virtuosic piece in which the servant lists his master’s conquests. The semi-final focuses on two highly dramatic arias: the slander of Don Basilio from Il barbiere di Siviglia, an example of vocal prowess, and the celebrated aria of Procida from I Vespri Siciliani, a moment of high dramatic tension in which the character, having returned to his homeland, invokes his land and his vengeance.
