Richard Strauss — Arabella — “Das war sehr gut, Mandryka”

Final with orchestra

Antonín Dvorák – Rusalka- “Mesícku na nebi hlubokém”

Giuseppe Verdi – Il corsaro- “Egli non riede ancora… Non so le tetre immagini”

The first round combines Rusalka’s famous “Song to the Moon” from Dvořák’s opera of the same name, in which the water nymph turns to the satellite to ask for the help needed to win the prince’s love. This is followed by Fiordiligi’s virtuosic “Come scoglio” from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, a piece that expresses her staunch fidelity. The semifinal focuses on two moments of great drama: the first aria is Arabella’s from Strauss’s Arabella, where the protagonist expresses her joy at having found the man fate had promised her. The program concludes with Anna Bolena’s aria from Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, a culminating moment in which the queen, now mad, prepares for death by dreaming of a return to her childhood home.
