Bio

South Korean Baritone Hwan An was born in Seoul and studied singing with bass-baritone Lucio Kyu-hee Cho at the Catholic University of Korea. He was graduated from a Master’s degree of Canto Lirico at Conservatorio di Musica G.Verdi di Milano, Italy. As a member of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, Milan, he was taught by Luciana D’intino, Eva Mei and Renato Bruson. He was awarded 1st place in the 2021 International Opera competition Canto Lirico ‘Ponte’ in Italy, 3rd place in the 2022 International Opera competition Canto Lirico ‘Nicolaj Ghiaurov’ in Italy and 2nd Prize 2019 ‘International Sacred music competition SAN COLOMBANO’ in Italy. He has participated in Masterclasses with Ralf Gothoni, Helmut Deutsch, Samuel YOON, Kwang-chul YOUN and Luciana Serra. He studied with ‘Ralf gothoni’ at the Lied-Duo course, ‘Academie musicale de Villecroze’. Hwan was selected in the Master Class of ‘Laboatorio sulla vocalita donizettiana’ of ‘Luciana Serra’ co-hosted by Accademia Teatro alla Scala and Conservatorio Gaetano Donizetti di Bergamo. He was selected in the ‘Accademia ‘Amo’ del Teatro Coccia a Novara, Italy in 2021/2022. He is an artist of choir of ‘Teatro alla Scala’.
