Joonyeop Kim is an American baritone born in Lodi, California, USA in 1990. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Opera at the Korea National University of Arts (2016), he earned his master’s degree in Opera and Konzert/Lied and his Konzertexamen degree in Konzert at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim under Professor Timothy Sharp. (2020,2022) Joonyeop Kim attended numerous master classes by Stefan Herheim, Dan Ettinger, Natale de Carolis and Rudolf Piernay among others. He was also the Prizewinner of the Theodor-Heuss-Kulturpreis 2022, Special prize at the 55th International Antonin Dvoraks Competition and finalist at the Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici “Città di Alcamo” in Sicily, Italy. Principal roles taken up by Joonyeop Kim include Il Conte di Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro (W.A.Mozart), Valentin in Faust (Charles Gounod), Falke in Die Fledermaus (Johann Strauss), Junius in The Rape of Lucretia (Benjamin Britten) and Graf in Reigen (Philippe Boesmans). In addition, he sang various parts as a bass soloist in the field of oratorio, including Bach cantata Schwingt freudig euch empor BWV 36, Leopold Mozart Missa solemnis in C, Joseph Haydn Missa in angustiis (Nelson Mass) and W.A.Mozart Litaniae de venerabili altaris sacramento KV 243. He sang with many symphony orchestras, such as Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra and Kurpfälzischen Kammerorchester; with many conductors, such as Jirí Štrunc, Cosima Osthoff and Herald Jers. Joonyeop Kim received the Richard-Wagner-Verbandes Bayreuth Scholarship in 2021 and a Deutschlandstipendium in 2020/2021.
