Born in Osaka in 2000 Shion Ota entered the Tokyo College of Music as a special student and graduated at the age of 20, skipping a grade. She studied with Yukio Yokoyama and Björn Lehmann in the master’s program at Nagoya University of Arts and Berlin University of the Arts. At the 17th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy, she was awarded the Most Promising Artist prize and 5th prize, won 2nd prize at the Malta International Piano Competition in 2018, won 1st prize at the Gloria Artis International Competition in 2020, and she was awarded the Noel Mewton-Wood 6th prize at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2021. She has performed with many orchestras including the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Armenian National Symphony Orchestra. She was selected as a “CHANEL Pygmalion Days Artist” by the Chanel Foundation. In 2021, she recipient the Meiji Yasuda Cultural Foundation Scholarship.
