Bio
The Korean baritone Seungwoo Sun studied with Prof. UngKyun Yim at the Korea National University of Art in 2014 and then he did his bachelor’s degree in singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg in 2015, where he is currently doing his master’s degree in opera in the class of Prof. Carolyn Grace James. He returned to Korea for military service in 2017-2020 and completed his bachelor’s degree in 2021. To this day he has sung many opera roles such as Marco in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi”, Monterone in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”. In 2020 he took part in the Capri Opera Festival and sang Tonio in Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” under the direction of Christian Deliso. In 2021 he sang the leading role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in a concert performance under the direction of Prof. Ulrich Windfuhr ??at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. In June 2022 he sang as Graf in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” under the direction of Prof. Willem Wentzel and Christian Poewe and the Symphoniker Hamburg and now in July 2022 he sings the bass solo in “Ein deutsches Requiem” by Brahms under the direction of Prof. Ulrich WIndfuhr. In August 2022 he will be heard as Guglielmo in Mozart’s “Cosí fan Tutte” under the baton of Toby Purser at the Vienna Opera Academy. In October 2021 he was 1st prizewinner at the Mozart Competition of the Absalom Foundation Hamburg. In December of the same year he won first prize at the Elise Meyer Foundation competition and in May 2022, together with pianist Heetae Hwang, he won first duo prize at the 5th Gustav Mahler Song Competition of the Rochna Foundation in Hamburg.
