RUGGERO LAGANÀ

Ruggero Laganà, composer, harpsichordist, and pianist (modern and historical instruments), is a professor at the Milan Conservatory. He has won eleven international composition competitions (including, at a very young age, the prestigious 1982 Guggenheim Fellowship, with Goffredo Petrassi and Elliott Carter). Published by Sugar, Sonzogno, Sconfinarte, and Carisch, his music is performed at the world’s most prestigious contemporary music festivals (including two operas at the Scala and Piccolo Teatro in Milan, MilanoMusica, the Venice Biennale, and in Paris, Orléans, Montreal, Stockholm, Moscow, Vienna, Bilbao, Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Sion). He has given over a thousand solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts throughout Europe, America, and Asia for radio and television broadcasters in Europe, Japan, and Canada, and has won first and special prizes in three harpsichord competitions (Paris 1985, Bologna 1987, Rome 1987). He has recorded three CDs for Amadeus, several for Stradivarius, Concerto, and Fonit Cetra, a DVD by Francesco Leprino on Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart, and Gesualdo da Venosa, and a CD/DVD containing the first part of his “The POP Art of the Fugue.” He has collaborated on classic melodramas or works of his own composition with Lella Costa, Ugo Pagliai, Ottavia Piccolo, Angela Finocchiaro, and Sonia Grandis.
