SEOKJUN KIM

 

South Korean bass Seokjun Kim trained at Yonsei University in Seoul and pursued advanced studies at the University of Music in Nuremberg, earning his Master’s degree. He made his operatic debut as Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore with the Korean National Opera, later joining the company’s inaugural Opera Studio. From 2022 to 2024, he was a member of the Opera Studio at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, before being invited to join the permanent ensemble for the 2024/25 season. His repertoire includes Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Banquo in Macbeth and Daland in Der fliegende Holländer. In the upcoming season, he will perform the role of Timur in Turandot.

Seokjun Kim program spans the operatic and sacred repertoire, demonstrating a solid mastery of archetypal styles and roles. The first round combines the profound Verdian gravity of Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra with the serene and noble authority of Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

The semifinal continues this exploration with the comic virtuosity of Basilio in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, a piece that requires agility and a sense of crescendo. This is followed by the dramatic solemnity of the “Confutatis” from Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and the solid Wagnerian vocalism of King Heinrich in Lohengrin. The broad scope of the program highlights exceptional interpretive and vocal versatility.
