SOLANGE SIERRO

 

The Valais-born soprano Solange Sierro trained in Neuchâtel and Zurich, performing regularly in concert and on opera stages throughout Europe.4 During her studies, she was awarded the Friedl Wald Foundation scholarship.5 Her repertoire includes roles such as Adina in L’elisir d’amore in Bergamo, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute in Weimar, and Gilda in Rigoletto in Vienna.6 She recently founded Duo Opale with pianist Roberta Michela, a project dedicated to vocal chamber music.

A stylistic path from the eighteenth century to Romanticism and Opéra-comique, highlighting the qualities of a lyric-coloratura soprano. The first round unites an aria of the Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute, an expression of threat and power, with Norina’s famous aria from Don Pasquale, a moment of great vivacity. The semi-final features the aria of the mechanical doll Olympia from Les Contes d’Hoffmann, which requires great vocal agility, and Gilda’s aria from Rigoletto, “Caro nome,” a pinnacle of the Verdian repertoire and an expression of falling in love.
