SUNU SUN

 

Seungwoo Sun, performing as Sunu Sun, is a young baritone based in Hamburg. He graduated with a Bachelor, Master, and Konzertexamen from the HfMT Hamburg under the guidance of Prof. Carolyn Grace James. Specializing in the Italian repertoire, he won first prize at the 12th Fausto Ricci Award and will debut as Marcello in La bohème in Viterbo. At the 76th AsLiCo Competition, he was chosen to perform Riccardo in I puritani, a role he will debut in Como. His stage experience includes roles such as Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva, Guglielmo, and Count di Luna in theaters in Germany, Italy, and Austria.

The first round begins with Figaro’s aria from Le nozze di Figaro, where the character addresses the Count in an aria of rage and revenge. This piece is followed by Escamillo’s famous “Toreador Song” from Carmen, where the character expresses his courage and vanity. The semi-final is dedicated to two moments of profound reflection on death. It opens with Wolfram’s aria from Tannhäuser, a lament on the loss of his love for Elisabeth. Finally, Rodrigo’s aria from Don Carlo is a farewell to life and a noble sacrifice for a greater ideal.
