Giacomo Puccini — Gianni Schicchi — “Era eguale la voce?”

Semifinal

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Così fan tutte — “Rivolgete a lui lo sguardo”

Giuseppe Verdi — Falstaff — “È sogno? o realtà?”

Final with orchestra

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Le nozze di Figaro – “Hai già vinta la causa… Vedrò mentr’io sospiro”

Giuseppe Verdi – Falstaff – “È sogno? o realtà?”

The baritone’s program demonstrates a solid mastery of the Mozartian and Verdian repertoire, exploring characters of both a comic and dramatic nature. The first round pairs the Count Almaviva’s aria of revenge from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with the subtle irony and expressiveness of Marco from Puccini’s celebrated comic opera, Gianni Schicchi.

The semifinal continues this line with the introduction of two more arias that are a true vocal test. Guglielmo’s aria “Rivolgete a lui lo sguardo” from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, though often omitted, is a piece of great virtuosity that demands control and agility. The round concludes with Ford’s monologue “È sogno? o realtà?” from Verdi’s Falstaff, an aria that masterfully exposes the character’s inner conflict, jealousy, and drama.
