YOUNJI YI

The South Korean lyric coloratura soprano Younji Yi has performed roles such as Pamina (The Magic Flute), Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Servilia (La clemenza di Tito), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), and Adina (L’elisir d’amore). In 2024, she was a semi-finalist at the Neue Stimmen and Seoul International Competitions and won the Audience Prize at the IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition.² In the 2025/26 season, she will join the Opera Studio of Oper Frankfurt, where she will appear as Piacere in Handel’s oratorio Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno and Yvette in Weinberg’s Die Passagierin.

The first round highlights two arias of great brilliance: “Da tempeste il legno infranto” by Cleopatra, from Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, an aria that celebrates joy and relief after a danger is averted. This is joined by Dinorah’s famous “Ombre légère” (Shadow Song), from Meyerbeer’s opera of the same name, a piece of great lyricism and illusion. The semifinal continues with two very famous arias: the first is “Una voce poco fa” by Rosina, from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, where the protagonist expresses her determination and cunning. The journey concludes with the great mad scene of Ophelia, “À vos jeux, mes amis,” from Thomas’s opera Hamlet, a moment of virtuosic and dramatic introspection.
