WANTING CHENG

Wanting Cheng, originally from Chongqing, China, has been praised for her interpretive insight, musical sensitivity, and technical command, performing across Europe, Asia, and North America. After beginning piano studies at age eleven, she was admitted two years later to the Middle School affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under Professor Zhiwei Zhang. She then moved to the United States to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees on a full scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music with Professor Jeffrey Cohen, winning the Dora Zaslavsky-Koch Concerto Competition, performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto with Maestro Perry So, and graduating as the sole recipient of the Roy M. Rubenstein Award. Supported by the Lucia Loeser Scholarship, she completed a second Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin under Professor Kirill Gerstein and is currently pursuing the Meisterklasse degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig. Her competition awards include the Jury Special Prize at the Princess Lalla Meryem International Piano Competition, first prize at the Lilian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, second prizes at the China “Cadenza Cup” National Piano Competition and the Duxbury Music Festival Piano Competition, alongside the Mieczysław Munz Foundation Scholarship.
