THE PURSUIT OF PERFECTION

To spend a month immersed in the Viotti selections means to be swept up in the immense vortex of energy released by the encounter between the fresh minds of today and tomorrow and the powerful musical works of yesterday and today, seeing them perpetually renewed by the blood and sweat of these new ascetics, willing to surrender their souls in exchange for the chance to bear witness to the world of their love for music. Faced with this impetuous flow, the juror’s spirit oscillates between the duty to safeguard a sound interpretive tradition and the right to point out the most innovative talents, fully aware that their decisions can unfortunately highlight only a small fraction of all the talents that have emerged in this extraordinary edition of the Viotti. To many of the candidates who were not admitted, therefore, goes my admiration, confident that other important opportunities for recognition will soon come their way.
