SOO IN PARK

 

Korean mezzo-soprano Soo In Park began her studies at Ewha Womans University and continued in Germany, earning her Master’s degree with top honors from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She completed her Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in March 2025. She made an acclaimed debut as Komponist in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and has also appeared as Annio in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, she has participated in several world premieres and joined the 2025 Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.

This program highlights characters of great strength and psychological complexity, moving through a repertoire that ranges from classicism to romanticism and early 20th-century music. The journey opens with Dorabella’s aria, “Ah, scostati!… Smanie implacabili”, from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, an explosion of rage and frustration. This is followed by Eboli’s famous “O don fatale” from Verdi’s Don Carlo, an aria of great dramatic intensity in which the remorseful character curses her own beauty.

The semifinal continues with three pieces of profoundly different character: Carmen’s Séguidille from Bizet’s Carmen, a piece of great seduction and cunning, which serves as a prelude to Leonora’s famous romance, “O mio Fernando!”, from Donizetti’s La favorita, an expression of ardent and desperate love. The program concludes with the Composer’s “Sein wir wieder gut!” from Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, a moment of pure and touching lyricism that expresses the joy of reconciliation.
