GABRIELE PIERANUNZI
Pupil of Salvatore Accardo and Stefan Gheorghiu, Gabriele Pieranunzi soon came to the attention of the public and critics having won a long series of prizes in important international competitions (“N. Paganini” in Genoa 1988 and 1990, “T. Varga” in Sion, “L. Spohr” in Freiburg, “R. Romanini” in Brescia, “R. Lipizer” in Gorizia, “G. B. Viotti” in Vercelli, “Biennale” in Vittorio Veneto).
His activity has led him to perform in the main musical centers in Italy and abroad: Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Wigmore Hall in London, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Herculeesaal in Munich, Teatro Coliseum in Buenos Aires, Opera City Hall in Tokyo, Malmoe Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Budapest, G. Philharmonic. Enescu of Bucharest, Festival Bemus of Belgrade,Teatro Regio of Turin, Orchestra G. Verdi of Milan, Settimane Musicali of Stresa (within which, in 2000, he performed the complete Beethoven Sonatas for violin and piano) Festival dei Due mondi of Spoleto, Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Soloists of Moscow, collaborating with musicians such as J. Tate, V. Fedoseyev, G. Noseda, A. Ceccato, M.Bamert, A. Kontarsky, R. Kussmaul, N. Goerner, B. Canino, R. Filippini, Yury Bashmet.
At the invitation of the City of Genoa, Gabriele Pieranunzi has repeatedly played the “Guarneri del Gesu” that belonged to Niccolò Paganini.
His record releases include Kurt Weill’s concerto op. 12 for violin and winds, with the Teatro San Carlo wind ensemble and conducted by Jeffrey Tate for the Concerto Classics label,the complete Mendelssohn Quartets for piano and strings for Decca-Universal.
His most recent successes include an invitation to the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut in which he performed Paganini’s Concerto No. 2 “La campanella ”to great public and critical acclaim, and the release for Amadeus magazine (March 2019 issue) of a CD dedicated to Ernest Chausson with a performance of Concerto Op. 21 for violin, piano and string quartet, with pianist Jin Ju and the string quartet of the Philharmonia Orchestra of London (Philharmonia Chamber Players), with whom will perform in the 2019 -20 concert season a tour of Italy that will touch some of the leading concert societies (Florence – Amici della Musica, Rome – IUC, Bologna – Musica Insieme, Genoa – GOG). This project dedicated to Chausson will also include concerts in England and China.
Gabriele Pieranunzi plays the 1762 Ferdinando Gagliano violin, formerly belonging to the great violinist Gioconda de Vito.
