ROBERTO CANI

 

Roberto Cani, a graduate of the Conservatorio G.Verdi in Milan, later specialized with masters P.Vernikov, M. Russin, A. Schoenfeld, A. Stern at the Academy of Portogruaro and the Gnessin Institute in Moscow. He later graduated from the USC in Los Angeles.

He has received numerous national and international prizes, I prize as soloist for the Gioventù Musicale d’Italia, the Minetti prize in ’86, awarded at the Concorso Intenazionale Paganini in Genoa, I prize and ‘special prize’ at the Jeunesses International Competition in Belgrade in’91, the Gingold Prize and I prize at the Chateaux de Courcillon Competition in France and diploma of honor at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.

His solo career, which began at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, has led him to play in Milan and in major Italian cities with such distinguished orchestras as the Haydn of Bolzano and the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai of Milan and many others.

In the United States he has played in Los Angeles, Washington, San Francisco, the Savannah Festival, Oregon, Georgia, Colorado, and Missouri with Orchestras such as the Los Angeles, Glendale Symphony, American Youth Symphony, and Pacific Symphony.

He has toured Russia, Croatia, Poland and Serbia, Germany, France, Belgium, Japan and Taiwan.

He teaches Violin and Chamber Music in Los Angeles and gives Master Classes at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Idylwild School of Music and in Taiwan, and has also been invited to be a jury member in several international competitions.

He has recorded for KUSC radio, BBC in California, RAI and participated in television broadcasts in Poland and France. He gives the first performance of Gorecki’s Theme with Variations.

He has recorded with J. Swann the sonatas of Busoni and Respighi, music by Bartòk, Ysaye, Prokofiev and Bloch for Solo Violin, Vivaldi’s Seasons and recently P.Tchaikovski’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.

He plays the violin Pietro Guarneri da Venezia (1735).
